Singing Bowls vs Gong — What's the Difference and Which is Right for You

Both instruments are used in sound healing, but they create very different experiences in the body.

Crystal singing bowls produce a sustained, clear tone that corresponds to specific frequencies. Different bowls are tuned to different notes, and practitioners use them to create layered harmonic fields. The sound is warm, sustained, and tends to produce deep relaxation and clarity.

The gong produces a broader, more complex soundscape — waves of overtones that move through the body like weather. The gong is more intense and can produce stronger emotional responses. Many people describe gong experiences as transformative in a way that feels less controllable than bowl work.

At Mystic Wellness in Petersham, Phoenix uses both — integrating crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, and gong in both private sessions and group events. The combination is calibrated to where the session is going and what each person or group needs.
